New York, NY- I just read a report on USA Today by Mike Garafolo, who spoke via email to what seems to be a delusional Osi Umenyiora. The now free agent former New York Giant says that he’s shooting to be NFL defensive player of the year. Now I get it, Umenyiora has 75 career sacks, blah, blah, blah. The problem is he is over the hill at his position. Can he be a presence on someone’s team? Absolutely. Can he be dominant on someone else’s team? Probably not. The facts are that Umenyiora is a 31 year old speed rusher. Film states that his poor against the run and the glaring stats prove that his sack production has been on the decline.
Since his 11.5 sack year in 2010, Umenyiora has had 9 sacks and 6 sack years respectively. As I have been mentioning all day it is a buyers’ market in this free agency season and Umenyiora should not be expecting a pot of gold at the end of the fictional rainbow that he sits on.
