New York, NY- The New York Knicks are trapped in the darkest part of their 82 game schedule. 3 straight losses on their recent road trip, a rash of critical injuries, with the latest being Kenyon Martin and questionable coaching decisions make us really wonder, should the Knicks concede this season? I know, perhaps a bit premature, but at some point, the organization has to be concerned about the future, rather than the short term. An ailing Carmelo Anthony, should not return until he is entirely healthy. Amare Stoudemire is done for the season and is a huge question mark for the playoffs. Tyson Chandler will be a game time decision moving forward and the rest the rest of the Knicks are just simply old.
Jump shots will only get a team so far. We knew that the Knicks would not continue their hot streak of hitting 3 pointers and when you can’t rebound that only make matters worse. On this West Coast trip, thus far, Steve Novak has not hit a three point field goal, going 0 for 11. In the third quarter of last night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers the Knicks shot a putrid 5 for 27, which equated to an 18% from the field.
The Knicks need to really worry about their core, which consists of Melo and Tyson Chandler, and build around those two. If they want to preserve that idea, they should rest them both until at least the playoffs and then see what happens from there. But we all know, if you watch the team, that they will be lucky to get out of the first round at this point. i don’t want to hear about them being able to match up with the Heat and the Pacers until they all can be on the court at the same time. They just simply are not healthy enough to compete down the stretch and into playoffs.
