New York, NY – Lets make one thing abundantly clear; I am not a New York Knick fan. Lets get another thing clear; I know basketball. Now that we have gotten that out of the way the facts are as stands, the New York Knicks may be the hottest team in the league. The reason: Carmelo Anthony. The runner up reason may be JR Smith and that is definitely debatable. As for Anthony, we knew he was great but I am not sure that we are aware of what we are witnessing right now.
Realize this; this may be the best player the Knicks have EVER had. Yes EVER. That is not a slight to one Patrick Ewing or Bernard King on any other great Knick that has played on that Madison Square Garden floor, but I am not sure that is even debatable. No Knick, yes no Knick has had the stretch of games in their career that Melo has had over the past three since scoring 50 against the Miami Heat. LeBron James is everything that you would expect him to be and Kevin Durant is his usual self. JR Smith has turned into Carmelo’s Dwayne Wade and Russell Westbrook. The fact is, however, you can argue that Anthony doesn’t have much left after that to compare. Without Anthony the Knicks may not even make the playoffs.
During our weekly Wednesday night staff meeting, one of our staff members, bought up a point that I had not even thought about. The Knicks past the quarter of the year mark were an 8th seed. The Knicks as of today pretty much have a firm grip on the second seed. Why you say? Carmelo Anthony. We talk al day about the other obvious candidates but over the last month of basketball and for the most part when he is on the court, this guy is the league MVP. The Knicks have had injury issues all year and to be sitting with over 50 wins and their first Atlantic Division Championship crown in almost 20 years Anthony has bought the Knicks back to relevancy.
