Indiana, IN- I have been hearing grumblings all day on Sports talk radio, media and whatever other outlets the New York Knicks have airtime on. First it’s this talk of Tyson Chandler having the audacity to say that the Knicks needs to share the ball after Roy Hibbert did his best Hakeem Olajuwon impersonation. Then it’s this issue of JR Smith having a bug or some type of clandestine sickness that will make him a game time decision. Lastly there is the larger issue of Iman Shumpert having his knee swell up. If I was a betting man this would all seem like the makings of an array of excuses that the Knicks will be making if they choose not to show up to the gym tonight in Indiana. As per Carmelo Anthony, he told the media that this game is going to show them what they are really about. In that case you have to applaud the Knicks All-Star for knowing the absolute urgency of this game. The main issue is who else is going to step up. If all serve true, we may hear a plethora of excuses from many.
This is certainly not time for the Knicks to be full of the what-ifs. Quite honestly, other than the 30-2 stretch in game 2, the Knicks have been outmuscled and outplayed. The key for the Knicks to win is quite simple; they must hit shots. The Pacers are not an offensive juggernaut and the Knicks can do just enough to win this game offensively if they can put the ball in the bucket.
Word is, is that Iman Shumpert will be examined by the teams’ orthopedic surgeon before the team can determine if his able to play due to this swelling. Without his energy and defensive prowess this game is going to become a taller order. And the Knicks can only hope that JR Smith can provide a spark though he is ailing. One thing remains certain and make no mistake, if the Knicks lose tonight the fat lady maybe warming up her vocal chords.
